Compass Services for the PSAT
You won't receive a high-pressured sales pitch from Compass if you are considering test
preparation for the PSAT. What you will receive is honest advice from testing experts on what you can do
for the PSAT, how it fits in with your plans for the SAT and Subject Tests (SAT IIs), and whether it makes
sense to get started right away or wait for the SAT.
Compass provides one-on-one test preparation, so our advice is never generic. We'll find out about your
previous scores, your goals, and such practical concerns as sports seasons or AP class schedules. We'll
talk to you about the potential for National Merit honors or about the need to address weaknesses over a
longer period of time. Compass associates even come right to your home so you can concentrate on studying
instead of commuting.
Our commitment to personal attention is a founding principle for Compass. You are not lost in a class or
forgotten about once we've assigned instructors. The Compass directors work hand-in-hand with your instructors
to ensure that you're achieving the best possible results. We get feedback on every lesson that takes place,
every homework assignment, and every practice test.
Compass knows that a one-on-one program is only as good as the instructors who deliver it. Despite what some
other test prep companies might want you to believe, not all instructors are equal. We treat our associates
as professionals with whom we can build long-term trust. Our associates have teaching experience, top scores,
sterling credentials, and great training, but they also have a passion that is often lacking in tutors only
interested in test prep as a part-time job. We expect only the best from our associates because we know that
is what you expect from us.
There is not one PSAT "package" at Compass, because every Compass student is unique. We develop a one-on-one
course structure that suits you. There are no hidden charges at Compass; all of our rates are hourly.
Our current rate for associates is $130 per hour, and we recommend 90 minutes as the ideal lesson length ($195 per lesson).
Your course books, homework exercises, actual College Board practice tests, in-depth diagnostic test analysis,
director consultations, flash cards, and anything else we deem essential to raising your score are all included.
You are also welcome to opt-out at any time without any further charges.
We find that most students benefit from between 5 to 9 lessons of Math, 4 to 5 lessons of Critical Reading, and 4 to 5 lessons of Writing. Of course some of our students only need help in one or
two subject areas, and Compass doesn't believe in "one-size-fits-all" programs. Some parents and students just want a short course of study for the PSAT
(no one enjoys the anxiety of taking a test cold), but prefer to work out a schedule ultimately geared toward
the spring SAT.
For many students, the PSAT represents an opening round in the college admission process. Unlike other test
prep companies that have expanded beyond their core expertise, Compass is completely committed to admission
tests and guiding students through this sometimes confusing process. We always look forward to sharing our
expertise either in a conversation or in our free Guide to College Admissions Testing. We'll also be glad to
send you a complimentary PSAT followed up by an in-depth analysis of your strengths and weaknesses on each
component of the exam.
