When’s the Last Chance for Seniors to Take ACT/SAT?

By October 20, 2016For Students

Most college application deadlines fall between mid December and late January. Are you wondering if you have one more shot at taking either the ACT or SAT before the admissions deadline at your dream school?

As long as you’re reading this post prior to November 3, 2016, you still have a shot at sitting for the SAT or ACT* before a college admissions team cracks open your application. If you like waiting until the very last minute and don’t mind paying late fees, the latest ACT registration deadline is November 18th (for the December 20th test), while the latest SAT registration deadline is November 22nd (for the December 3rd test).

Typically, college admissions teams don’t begin their initial application screening until January and February. As a result, you won’t have enough time (in most cases) to take the January 2017 SAT or February 2017 ACT and submit those scores in time for them to influence admissions decisions.

Of course, most students don’t want to spend the holiday season of their senior year worrying about standardized tests. On a case-by-case basis, each student should consider whether or not one more attempt is necessary.

*ACT deadline is November 4, 2016.
