Navigating the Evolving Testing Landscape

Date: Wednesday, 1/25
Time: 8 am Eastern
Location: Dining Hall, Fireside Room

Interested in learning practical, usable information about standardized testing and college admissions?  Although around 95% of US colleges have adopted test optional policies, the decisions to test and submit scores require thoughtful consideration.  Among some selective universities, strong test scores are preferred and enhance students’ applications. Conversely, other colleges state that the absence of scores has little impact on admission outcomes.  To add another layer of complexity, College Board has announced the debut of a fully digital, adaptive P/SAT that will replace all paper-based administrations in 2023-24.

Hear from the experts at Compass Education Group as they lead a pragmatic discussion of college admission testing and the recent outcomes of the test optional movement.

Other topics include:

  • The evolving role of ACT, SAT, and AP Exam scores in specific contexts
  • Parsing the subtlety and variety of testing policies
  • Fresh admissions data from test score submitters and non-submitters
  • Making an informed choice between the ACT and SAT
  • The diagnostic value of the PSAT and other practice tests
  • How to build a successful prep timeline

The presentation will run for about one hour, followed by Q&A.

Eric grew up in the Chicagoland suburbs and graduated from the University of Illinois, where he was U of I’s first Rhodes Scholarship campus nominee in nearly a decade. After college, he worked for the Discovery Channel, MTV Networks, and YouTube. He also served as a script doctor for lots of really corny low-budget horror and action movies whose titles shall remain unmentioned. Between film gigs, Eric joined Compass’s Southern California team as an ACT and SAT math tutor. He enjoyed the one-on-one tutoring experience so much that he made it his mission to bring Compass back to the Midwest. In 2019, Eric launched Compass Midwest out of Chicago. Today, Eric mentors a team of dozens of tutors and guides hundreds of families each year through the college admission testing process.
