Starting in the spring of 2024, paper-based administrations of the SAT have been replaced by a shorter, computerized exam. In sharp contrast, the ACT will retain its paper format with significantly more questions.
The introduction of a digital assessment comes at a pivotal moment in today’s admission context. While many schools have retained test-optional policies in the wake of the pandemic, admission offices have demonstrated varying preferences for test scores. Especially among highly selective institutions, applicants with strong scores may be admitted more frequently than those who withhold results.
