What materials are included with a PSAT prep class?

Compass course books ship to your home before the first session. You also receive access to three full-length digital adaptive PSAT practice tests through our Online Testing Center, along with weekly homework sets, session recordings, and interactive score reports after every practice test.

How is class time divided between Math and Reading and Writing?

Each 2.5-hour session splits evenly, roughly 75 minutes of Math and 75 minutes of Reading and Writing. Students take a short break at the midpoint. Every session covers both sections, which mirrors how the digital PSAT is actually administered.

Can we enroll in only Math or only Reading and Writing?

No, each class covers both sections in every session. The PSAT reports a single Selection Index built from both sections, so preparing for one in isolation leaves points on the table. Students who need concentrated work in a single area can add 1-on-1 tutoring alongside the class at a discounted rate.

What technology does my student need for an online PSAT class?

Classes run on Zoom, and a desktop or laptop on a stable connection works best. Any device that can run Zoom will connect. Cameras and microphones stay on during class. These are small working sessions rather than webinars, so students are expected to answer questions and work through problems out loud.

How large are the classes?

Every section is capped at 15 students. Sections can run smaller, and when one fills we open another rather than adding seats. That cap is what makes it possible for the instructor to know where each student is losing points.

How much can my student’s PSAT score improve?

Students starting in the 1000 to 1200 range typically gain 100 to 200 points, and we can set a more specific target than a range. Compass uses a percentile diagnostic instead of a flat promise. Every score maps to a national percentile, and we set an opening target by closing half the distance between where a student sits and the top. A student at 1000 is around the 48th percentile. Closing half the remaining gap puts them near the 74th, which maps to roughly 1150, so 150 points becomes a working target rather than a guess. Lower starting scores have more room and often move further. We do not offer score guarantees. A guarantee adds pressure to students and instructors without changing what actually drives improvement, which is attendance, motivation, homework, and time on task.

What does a PSAT class cost, and when does registration close?

Classes are $1,045. Standard registration closes August 31 at 3pm PT, and late registration closes September 4 at 3pm PT with a $50 late fee. After that the section closes and does not reopen. All three sections run September 5 through October 4.

How much does the PSAT cost?

The PSAT/NMSQT exam fee is set by College Board and billed to schools, not to students directly. Many schools cover the fee for their students; others pass along the exam fee, sometimes with a small administration charge, and set an internal registration deadline ahead of the October test date, so check with your school counselor early in the fall. Do you offer financial aid for PSAT classes?

We support hundreds of financial aid eligible students each year through partnerships with schools, non-profits, and community-based organizations. We are not able to offer need-based discounts on individual requests. Ask your college counselor whether your school has a partnership with Compass or is considering one.

What is your refund policy?

Full refunds are available up to 48 hours before the first session. Refunds are contingent on returning any course books that have already shipped to you, in original condition.

How much homework is assigned?

Plan on one to two hours between sessions. Assignments target the specific question types each student missed, and instructors track completion in the parent portal. Extra credit work is available for students who want more.

Should my student take a practice test before the class starts?

Yes, and the class schedule includes one. Taking the scheduled baseline means every student starts from the same diagnostic data and the instructor can see the group’s weak points before the first session. If your student took a practice test recently, take the scheduled one anyway so the scoring is consistent.

What do parents actually see during the course?

Instructors send a summary after each session, and the parent portal is open 24/7. Summaries cover what was taught and what was assigned. The portal shows homework completion, attendance, session recordings, and full score reports. Practice test analytics post within three business days of each test.

How long do we keep access to materials and recordings?

Six months after the course ends. That covers practice tests, homework, session recordings, and score reports, which means students can keep working from the same material through their SAT or ACT preparation.

Do you support extended time accommodations?

Yes, our testing center supports 50% and 100% extended time. Timing adjusts automatically for students with approved accommodations. Tell your instructor or our testing coordinator before the first practice test so the setting is in place.

What happens if my student misses a class?

Every session is recorded and posted to the portal within 24 hours. Students stay in the section they registered for rather than switching, but they can watch any missed session and bring questions to instructor office hours.

What if we miss a scheduled practice test?

Practice tests can be self-administered at any time, or taken during a make-up proctoring window. Your practice test emails include instructions. All three tests stay available for six months after the course ends.

None of the class times work for us. What are our options?

Email classes@compassprep.com with the times that would work. We schedule across weekend mornings and weekday evenings and we track requests when deciding whether to open another section. Students can also complete practice tests on their own schedule and work through session recordings asynchronously.

What if the section we want is full?

When a section reaches 15 students we open a new one rather than expanding it. Email classes@compassprep.com and we will tell you what is opening next. Sections do stop opening once late registration closes on September 4, so the deadline matters more than the seat count.

Do you register my student for the official PSAT?

No, PSAT registration is handled by your student’s school. Talk to the school counselor about the test date, timing, and any accommodations paperwork. Compass registration covers the prep class only.

Can we take practice tests in person instead of online?

Yes, where in-person sessions are running in your area. Your class registration covers digital testing. Moving a test to a physical center costs $50 in California or $100 in our New York office. PSAT classes themselves are online only.

Can we add 1-on-1 tutoring to a class?

Yes, and enrolled students get a discounted rate. Families usually add tutoring for one of two reasons: a specific area the class cannot spend enough time on, or continuing into SAT or ACT preparation after the PSAT. Students who take a class and then move into tutoring already know the platform and the diagnostics.
